The Library staff and students of Flagler College love beautiful books! Now, we want to share some of our beautiful books with you, so welcome to over 100 beautiful books housed in Flagler College's Special Collections.

We have five collections, one for each iteration of the beautiful books theme, and then collections for associated materials, including a collection of the five professional or student curators talking about their favorite book. To hear us talk, go to "Beautiful Books Highlights Collection."

Our first exhibit was in the Spring 2018 semester when eight display cases in the Library were filled with beautiful books from around the world. To see these books, go to "Beautiful Books Lobby Display Collection."

Our second exhibit was on Thursday, November 15, 2018 when Special Collections held an event entitled "Beautiful Books" as part of the Archives' and Special Collections' series, Meet the Collections and Curators. The book descriptions were written by Special Collections Fall 2018 Intern, Miss Madison Theodore, and Special Collections Work-Study Student, Miss Megan Lepak, under the supervision of the Special Collections Librarian, Miss Katherine Owens. To see these books, go to "Beautiful Books Exhibit Collection."

Thirty-seven were shown on both occasions and these books have two records with slightly different information. The records in the "Beautiful Books Exhibit Collection" reflect the labels from the event, not the book. To help differentiate between books in the collections, the first picture you will see for Exhibit books are the covers, while the first picture you will see for the Lobby Display books are the title pages.

This event was offered a year before our "Does Your Damaged Book Need a Little TLC?" event to show the converse of those - pretty books. The aesthetic of beauty changes over time and by place and patrons like to see these pretty books in Special Collections. Although held a year apart, we saw these two events as mirror images of one another and so as you go through this exhibit you will see links to Damaged Books where appropriate. Curiously enough, these two events were turned into digital exhibits, one year apart as well!

We also have four digital puzzles we'd like to invite you to complete of some of the books in this collection: Stack of Books, Laurel Leaves, The New World, and The Great Exemplar.
