Description

[Both volumes we own match, only volume 1 is pictured]:
Marbled leather covers make this book stand out (in spite of 200+ years of shelf-wear rubbing)! Around the edge of the covers is a flower and cornucopia-like design stamped in gilt. The edges of the covers have a dot-and-line design stamped at an angle. The most decoration though is on the spine with seven heavy lines of dotted ovals, dots, and diamonds. In four compartments created by these lines are circles with a starburst in the center. The remaining two compartments have a red leather insert with the title or volume information gilt stamped on them.
The marbled endpapers are a blue, white, yellow, and pink stone on stone pattern while a scroll design has been gilt stamped on the square (area of the cover that extends beyond the textblock. It looks like some brown paint may have been sprayed at the textblock to add extra design to the edges.
The paper is made of old rags and there are raised capitals at the beginning of chapters. The page numbers are in square brackets at the top center of each page.
