Description

The thick boards of this book are covered in a red leather that is gilt stamped with an Islamic-influenced, Renaissance-inspired design with a cartouche (blank area in middle of cover). The back cover mirrors the front cover. There is a narrow gilt border around the edges while the rest of the cover is a series of leafy intertwining lines. The spine has different gilt leafy scroll work with a gilt line border around the gilted title. The edges of the cover have gilt lines pressed into them, while the square (visible portion of cover extending beyond textblock) is covered with a leafy scroll that does not match the covers.
The edges of the texblock are covered with gold leaf. The endpapers are a dull golden satin fabric with a flower motif sewn into the fabric. The frontispiece is an image of the saint surrounded by a deep floral decorative border that looks like a lithograph. With the exception of the frontispiece, the paper for this book is onion-skin, a very thin almost see-through wood pulp paper.
