Description

This quarter-bound book has a leather spine and part of the covers are also leather with a red leather insert on the spine for the title. Gilt lines are added to the insert for decoration. The remainder of the covers are marbled paper in a shell design that is tan, blue, and red.
There are no decorative endpapers.
The decorative title page and the plates look like copper-plate engravings and portray Biblical religious figures. The regular title page is printed in two-colors and the side notes throughout the book are in Greek. The paper is made of old rags, the raised capitals are fancy, and the type has bitten into the paper leaving indentations felt with the finger.

Jeremy Taylor was an Anglican minister ordained in 1633 and author of books about Anglican religious beliefs and early how-to books that became popular in several denominations; including, influencing the founder of the Methodist religion, John Wesley.
Ten years before the publication of this book, Charles I gave Taylor a royal doctorate in Divinity in recognition of loyalty during the English Civil Wars. He lived, preached, and wrote in England, Wales, and Ireland during his lifetime.
Taylor lived from 1613-1667.
