Description
This book has marbled leather covers with a narrow, nearly invisible, blind stamped line around the edge. The spine has a red leather insert in the second compartment with the title gilt stamped on it and a decorative gilt border. The next compartment down has the volume number in gilt while the other compartments (between the remaining raised bands) are a floral motif. The edges of the covers have been gilt stamped with a line pattern that has mostly rubbed off from shelf-wear.
Red paint was flicked at the edges of the textblock leaving dots of red color. Sewn into the top of the headcap is a blue ribbon to use as a bookmarker. The endpapers are a snail/French curl marble pattern in blue, red, white, and yellow that is crisp in some places and fading in others.
The paper is made of old rags and the type has bitten into the paper leaving indentations that can be felt with a finger. The text includes both raised capitals at the start of new chapters, and side-notes scattered throughout.
