Description

This pocket-size book has plain dark brown on medium brown marbled leather covers. Between the raised bands of the spine in the second compartment the title has been blind stamped. However, the other compartments have a gilted floral and fan centerpiece-4 corner design.
Inside, the lacy pattern of the endpapers look like paste paper in vivid green and red on white rag paper. The edges of the textblock were painted red.
This little volume contains four separate books by different authors. The books fit into the covers because the text is only about 2 millimeters high. Each "book" has its own title page with a vignette on it.
___________________________________________
Gaius Valerius Catullus was a Roman poet of love and hatred and lived from 84BC - 54BC. He is considered the greatest lyric poet of classical Rome. Some of his poems reference contemporaries, Cicero, Pompey, and Julius Caesar, the latter being someone he disliked intensely.
Albius Tibullus was a Roman poet of elegiacs who lived from 55BC - 19BC. He lived during the reign of the Emperor Augustus (Octavian), but he did not write about him in his poetry. His poetry is about love, specifically about two women who are thought to have been his mistresses.
Sextus Propertius was a Roman poet believed to live from the 4th or 5th decade BC until 19BC. He rivals Tibullus as the greatest Roman poet of elegies. He too wrote poetry about love, specifically women thought to be his mistresses.
Claudius Claudianus was a Roman poet born in Alexandria in 370 and died in Rome in 404. He is considered the last classic Roman poet. He knew Greek poetry forms, but preferred the Latin ones, the language in which he wrote. He wrote many different kinds of poems.
