___________________________________________
This book is covered in what is called 'contemporary vellum,' meaning the cover is consistant with the materials and look of the time-period. They are unadorned, and any discoloration is food or water damage. However, writing has been found under the pastedown sides of the endpapers with dates to the 18th century, so it is possible, these covers are not 16th century, but 18th century.
This book has been stored in different manners over time because title/author information has been added by owners on the bottom edge of the textblock, lengthwise on the spine, and horizontally on the spine.
The paper is made of old rags and has warped to match the warping of the covers. There are places for Raised Capitals within the text, but the decorative letter was never added.

Marcus Tullius Cicero was a politician, lawyer, orator, and writer of Rome. He was educated in both Rome and in Greece. He was alive and active in the final civil war that ended the period of the Roman Republic and into the early days of Imperial Rome under the Caesars. He was a defender of republicanism throughout his life. He used his speaking abilities and knowledge of the law to try and uphold and protect Roman law and justice. He also wrote books about rhetoric, which is the topic of this volume.
Cicero lived from 106BC-43BC.
