Description

This book is covered with light green calico-grain cloth covers that have two blind-stamped borders. The outer-most border is a set of three lines, while the inner border is a scroll pattern with a few floral motifs and an architectural motif at top and bottom. In the center of the front cover is a gilt-stamped bust of a man dressed in a 17th century wig and coat surrounded by a leafy scroll. There is scrollwork on the spine too that includes florals, a chandelier, and a bird. The title, author's name, and memoirist's name are gilt stamped between the top chandelier and the bird while the word Illustrated is at the very bottom.
The endpapers are darkened sheets of wood-pulp paper and is a worse quality than the rest of the textblock because the rest of the paper has not darkened.
The frontispiece and the plates are on heavier paper than the rest of the textblock, and all of them have a tissue (thin piece of paper to protect the image and surrounding pages from off-bleeding). The text is surrounded by two thin black lines for a border and the text has bitten into the paper leaving indentations.
