Description

The covers of this book are covered in white coated cloth that imitates the look of leather under mass-produced floral paper that has a delicate webbing of gilt lines. The cloth is gilt stamped with an intertwining scroll design that incororates Fleur-de-lis's. There are either straight or wiggly lines along the edge of the cloth and the paper. All this is only on the front cover as the back has no gilt on the cloth, but the spine imitates the front cover only with blank areas for the title, author, volume number, publisher's name, and the word Illustrated. Ferns have been added to help highlight some of the Fleur-de-lis near the top of the spine.
Most of the paper for the textblock is slightly glossy, while the plates are fully glossy. The top edge of the textblock was painted with gold leaf.
The frontispiece is on thick matte paper and looks like a wood engraving, but some of the areas have a copper engraving crosshatch pattern. All the plates were created using an off-set lithograph.
