A CALENDAR OF SAINTS FOR UNBELIEVERS | GLENWAY WESTCOTT AND PAVEL TCHELITCHEW, ILLUS. | PARIS: HARRISON OF PARIS | 1932 | 1ST EDITION
The front and back covers of this book are plain black cloth with slightly bevelled edges. The spine offers some information about the book (author, title, publisher) as well as a border of zodiac animal symbols: Scorpios are scorpions, Libra are the scales, Sagittarius is an archer, Leo is a lion, Aries is a ram, Pisces is a fish, Gemini is a set of twins, Taurus is a bull, Virgo is a woman, Cancer is a lobster, and Capricorn is a goat. The fore-edge and bottom edge are deckled. A page near the beginning of this volume contains a printed note claiming that this is the first book printed using the new 12-point Romanèe type. Could this be the precursor of the 12-point Times New Roman font you use in your own writing?
This book was on a lithographic machine published in Paris, France. It offers information about the significance of various astrological signs in relation to individual historical persons. The borders around the chapter titles have astrological symbols in them, thus referencing the content of the text. An interesting font was used on subheadings to further emphasize the title and the month and its corresponding symbols. There are also illustrations of some of the people discussed in the text. The book is divided into sections by month and subdivided by date. Can you find your birthday?
