Description
These blue covers are printed with vivid colors in a bold but folksy design of a black cat and white mice with the surrounding furnishing in yellow, pink, orange, and red. The back cover is simpler of just a double staircase with the mice at the top. The spine is plain and sun darkened to brown.
All the illustrations look like relief lithographs under the microscope. The inside illustrations continue with the vivid coloration of the covers, and this includes the endpapers which are triangles in teal with pink mice, and yellow with an orange cat head. Around the outside edge, the diamonds are lines in teal, yellow, orange, or pink. Although many of the illustrations are full-page, they are not plates, while the rest of the illustrations are half-pages.
The slightly glossy paper is made of wood pulp and there is darkening around the edges.
