Description

This paper covered hardback book is vibrant with a black border surrounding a white space decorate with an overall pattern that looks like flames, but are actually leaves in two shades of red and purple on the front and the back covers. The front cover has a second black border encasing an image of three homes, two trees, a road, and lots of Dutchmen and women walking. The spine has sunfaded to a brown color.
The bright colors continue on the inside including the endpapers which are diamonds surrounded by orange and blue borders and encase either busts of people or flowers in vases. The rest of the illustrations which are in full color are both full-page, but not plates, or vignettes scattered throughout the text. The beginning of each chapter also has a decorative banner for the chapter title and the first letter is a raised capital.
The slightly glossy paper is made of wood pulp and there is darkening around the edges.

Alice Cooper Bailey was an American children's author and magazine contributor. Her best known works are Katrina and Jan and Kimo.
Bailey lived from 1890-1978.
There is a filmographer named Herman Rosse, but it is unknown if he is the illustrator.
