Description

The back cover of these dark green ribbed cloth covers is plain, with the decoration on the front and the spine. The design elements include both Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau hallmarks. There is a gilt stamped border around the cover with either a blue bird or butterfly in each corner. Within the border is a design of a banner at the top in gilt with the title in gilt and connected to palm fronds in gilt and green, pineapples in gilt, an oval of different objects associated with Florida painted in blue, white, green, and gilt that connects with a scroll to oranges, magnolia blossoms and an alligator at the bottom. The spine has gilt lines at the top and bottom. Separating the title and author from the publisher's name is an overly large orange tree with butterflies and magnolia blossoms.
The endpapers are Florida-esque landscapes with lots of palm trees in gray-green on white. The paper is made of wood pulp, the top edge has been painted with gold leaf, and the foredge and the bottom are deckled (uncut).
The frontispiece and plates, whether they look like paintings or photographs, are relief lithographs. The map folds out and is in color.
