Transcription of event description:
GENERAL LEE'S ARMY: FROM VICTORY TO COLLAPSE | JOSEPH T. GLATTHAAR | NEW YORK: FREE PRESS | 2008
This book clearly illustrates the power of the dust jacket. On this book, the dust jacket employs a combination of a watermark of General Lee, and a painting of a Gettysburg battlefield scene. Over all is large, red font for the title to catch the reader’s eye. This dust jacket would stand out on any bookstore’s shelf! However, the binding of the book is plain. This book has a quarter-bound cover using gray mottled and plain black paper, with gilt stamping only on the spine. This plain design is typical of hardback books since the mid-20th century.
The illustrations in this book are photographs on glossy paper, printed from an ink jet printer, as was the dust jacket.
This book is part of the Dr. William Lee Procter Civil War Collection, donated by its namesake in 2017. Dr. Proctor was president of Flagler College from 1971 to 2001 when he retired to become the College’s Chancellor, a position he still holds.
